Today's Vatican Bollettino announces that the English Archbishop, Paul Gallagher, until now Apostolic Nuncio in Burindi, has been appointed as Apostolic Nuncio in Guatemala.
Last April, his residence in Burundi was mortared (probably not as a deliberate target) while he was out of the country. He made arrangements to return immediately to his post regardless of the danger.
Please join me in praying for Archbishop Gallagher in his new appointment.

I remember Father's post about Archbishop Paul Gallagher. He is one of only two English priests who are papal nuncios, I think ?
Well, I know nothing of Guatemala, but I hope and pray it is a safer place than Burundi.
I remember some 25 years ago when we used to sometimes join the young Father Paul for drinks at the Casa in Rome, but it never crossed my mind that he may be elevated to such high office over such a short time frame. I think my money was on you at that time, Tim!
Was there any comment as to why Archbishop Paul has been appointed to Guatamala after such a short time in Burundi?
Candles at mass this week for Archbishop Paul, I think.
On a different topic, your Tablet post (if I'm not mistaken) would appear to have already smashed the "most comments" count record for your blog.
Many congratulations, & keep up the good work. Chin up, old chap!!!
His predecessor in Burundi (and Rwanda - they shared a nuncio at that time) was murdered in 2003. Thank God Abp Gallagher has been safely delivered to serve elsewhere.
I remember very well the help & kindness shown 2 me by the then Fr. Paul when as a young 21yr old girl from Ireland was in Fazarley Hosp waiting 2 give birth without the knowledge of my family. He visited me nearly every day & was so kind, ive never forgotten him. Cudnt believe when i googled him that he was now an Archbishop & Papal Nuncio, also cudnt believe he was only 2 yrs older than i was at that time! Id love him 2 know that i always remember him with such respect & ill never forget his help. Rosaleen Newman, Meath, Ireland.
