It's still the same blog ...

... just a different layout. I was dithering about, wondering how to get everything exactly right and then had a "crash and burn" moment and decided just to get on with it. So you have your sans-serif font for easier reading, a new and enhanced blogroll and a nice big picture of St Peter's Square. You have even got a special mobile version for your portable telephone.

As you can see, there are now two sidebars. The new "Template designer" lost a lot of stuff from the old sidebar but that is no great worry. I might even find it somewhere. There will be some "pages" at the top in due course. Update: just done one to try it out.

There will probably be quite a bit of tweaking to do over the next few days and weeks so if you find any problems or anything not working, do feel free to let me know. Don't worry - I'll do something about the orange link text. Update: actually I had to do that straight away. It was too gruesome to leave overnight.

Time for bed now. More changes tomorrow - but no rupture.

A bit of a shock when the page first opened, but the only negative is that I find white letters on a black background a little hard to read.

So I hope you will change that. But otherwise it looks good!

Fr. Tim,

The reform of the reform!

It's great -- it doesn't cause my Blackberry to freeze any more.

Hello, Fr. Finigan! You and I are both on the same page with giving our blogs a "facelift" of sorts. I really like having more choices now with my background.

If you'd like to have your background photo stay in place while one scrolls down your blog, go to the "Background" area in the Blogger Template Designer window, and uncheck "scroll with page."

I plan on finding lots of Catholic gorgeous photos (preferably rich, stunning interiors of cathedrals) to set as my background.

Love your new look! God bless you!

A trifle busy on the eye?
I have to admit that I always find WOB (white on black) quite difficult to read.

It looks good, Father. Thanks for the link, too!

Good new layout, if I may say so.

Congratulations, Father! Do you EVER sleep?!

Many thanks for the comments and suggestions. Wibiya toolbar - that looks interesting.

White on black - that was meant to be a little "continuity" thing. But I may do a poll to see how much of an issue it is. Actually it is currently very-light-grey on black so I think that probably needs to be changed to pure white in any case.

The various link colours (link, visited, hover) are not quite right and I'll be addressing that.

Mary Rose - many thanks. Done that now.

I'm going to be a true trad and say that this new blog format is a departure from tradition.

Better still if you could make the main blog column wider, since I find that the nice big picture in the background intrudes on what I'm actually trying to read!

Love the background photo of your new Parish Father !!!

Its quite difficult to read your blog posting, because the background is too distracting it deviates the readers eyes. Eye strain big time here.

Very impressive, but a little busy, don't you think?

I hoped that part of the change would indeed be getting rid of the reversed-out text: white on black looks tremendously stylish but is tricky to read for many people (including me). I tend to highlight the whole block so that it appears as white on mid-blue - less strain on the eyes.

Do you have any tips on how to change the backgroud colour and even the text colour for blockquotes?

Oeh, like the way it is now. Good job!

Fr John - You're going to have to get into the html editor and add some css for that. You would be looking at something along the lines of this thread on the blogger help forum I think.

I love the new layout much crispier and easier to read. Might I suggest it would be even easier to read if you make the font black rather than dark gray?

Hi Fr Tim, thanks for the improvements.

Personally, I find background images fussy and distracting, so I have removed the view of Rome (much as I like it in other contexts) - only in my browser view, you understand; I've not hacked your site :-) - using Adblock Plus.

I offer this as a hint to those who share my view, to help forestall their importuning you about it.
